Science KS2 Micro-organisms

Introduction

This mini quiz introduces meningitis, what it is, what it isn’t, what causes it and what to do if a friend or other person becomes ill.

1 – Good bugs and bad bugs

Having passed the introductory quiz, children are offered a short learning activity exploring the differences between good bugs and bad bugs – and what can be done to prevent disease.

2 - Invasion of the bad bacteria

This animated learning tool takes children through a simulated attack on the body’s immune system and explains, in simple terms, what happens during a meningitis attack.

3 - Keeping meningitis away (How vaccines work in the body)

This animated learning tool introduces vaccination and describes how it prepares the body for an attack by bad bugs.

4 - Meningitis and viruses

The quiz ends with children being encouraged to print out a ‘completion certificate’ as a reminder of the key learning points.
